Dr. Ifepo Sofola is a facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon who believes that optimal outcomes are achieved through a combination of artistic abilities and a thorough understanding of the science involved in surgery. Dr. Sofola attended medical school at Emory University School of Medicine, Atlanta, Georgia, where he graduated with honors in 1993. He was then commissioned into the [COUNTY] Navy after which he completed his Internship in General Surgery at the National Naval Medical Center, Bethesda, Maryland, the hospital of the president and leadership of our nation. He then pursued his dreams in aviation by attending the Naval Aerospace and Operational Medical Institute in Pensacola, Florida, earning his wings as a Naval Flight Surgeon in June of 1995. Adventure called as he served as the Flight Surgeon for Carrier Airwing SEVENTEEN attached to The USS ENTERPRISE (CVN 65) for 2 years, culminating in a 6 month Mediterranean deployment. Dr. Sofola then completed his surgical residency in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery (ENT) at the National Naval Medical Center, Bethesda, Maryland, in 2001 . Following this, he served for 3 years as the sole Naval Head and Neck Surgeon in the European Theatre, based in Rota, Spain. Upon completing a remarkable tenure in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, he returned to the [COUNTY] and completed his fellowship in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the prestigious Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, Maryland. While at Johns Hopkins, he trained under icons in Facial Plastic Surgery like Dr. Ira Papel, Dr. Theda Kontis and Dr. Patrick Byrne. Dr. Sofola then continued service to our great country by serving as the Chief of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the National Naval Medical Center, where he completed 15 years of active service to our great country.
Throughout Dr. Sofola‘s military career, Dr. Sofola was awarded numerous personal and unit citations and awards for his stellar service. Furthermore, while at Bethesda Naval Hospital, Dr. Sofola‘s work with the Marines and Sailors involved in the war against terrorism resulted in a Special Recognition Award by the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery for innovative work, advancement of the specialty and service to our nation. His unquestioned patriotism culminated in Dr. Sofola Co-founding the “Faces of Honor” initiative by the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery: A pro-bono service offered by an international quorum of over 250 plastic surgeons worldwide, offering their services in support of the veterans of the war against terrorism. Dr. Sofola, still a Commander in the [COUNTY] Navy Reserves, is currently a Flight Surgeon attached to Fleet Logistics Support Squadron 48 (VR-48) out of Andrews AFB, Maryland.
Dr. Sofola is an assistant professor of facial plastic and reconstructive surgery at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, Bethesda, Maryland. He is an oral board examiner for the American Board of Facial Plastic surgery that certifies surgeons who specialize in facial plastic surgery. He also writes questions for the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. For his expertise, Dr Sofola has been an invited speaker at both national and international conferences in Mexico, Nigeria, [COUNTY], Spain, Canada and the Carribean Islands. Fluent in Spanish, he serves as a Professor and Master of Aesthetic Surgery at the Instituto Superioris de Medicina in Veracruz, Mexico. He has authored in several peer reviewed journals and major text books in facial plastic surgery. In addition, Dr. Sofola clearly nurtures a humanitarian side as he participates in humanitarian medical missions world wide, serving those who are less fortunate.

He is an expert in rhinoplasty and has particular interest in cosmetic and reconstructive nose surgery in various ethnic groups. He is experienced in the use of minimally invasive approaches to facial enhancement and rejuvenation, treatment of chronic problems of facial paralysis, endoscopic facial rejuvenation and skin cancer repair.
